Tyranids are an army set when you need standard troops that are powerful and very independent. Not only do they look creepy in a good way but they also feature one of the best troops in the game: Genestealers. The Brood Lord is also a great commander in the field but even without it, the Genestealers are fine on their own. The Heavy Support Trygon can even be interchangeable as a Mawloc too. For meta situations, the Mawloc is more ideal.

What I Would Buy
It’s great to know that there are a lot of amazing Warhammer 40K sets that are fun and useful whether for casual play or for competitive purposes. That’s why we chose the Tau Empire as our best Warhammer 40K army set because of its durability in combat. The Tyranids are great too especially if you need a reliable set of troops. And, Blood of the Phoenix is considered one of the most meta armies around.
FAQs
The most popular army is the Space Marines and its various chapters, of course. Space Marines serve as the stereotypical patriotic dude-bro who will give their lives for the Emperor and purge the heretics.
If you are still beginning, Space Marines are the most basic type of units. If you want a bundle to get you started, get the Kill Team Starter Set.
“The Adeptus Custodes, known as the Legio Custodes during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy eras, is the Imperial Adepta responsible for protecting the Imperial Palace and the physical body of the Emperor of Mankind, as well as serving as His most important emissaries, His companions, and the keepers of His many secrets.” -Warhammer Wiki
We can’t tell you how to choose except do your research first on which army is considered the most powerful in the current meta. But, if you are just starting, the Space Marines are good as they are affordable.
One Custodes might have fallen, but the circumstances in which he was corrupted was so specific and severe that the answer to this question isnt clear cut. A single Custodes who might have fallen was stabbed by Drach’nyen, that same tasty Daemon sword Abaddon uses at the end of Master of Mankind. The Custodes was told to flee deep into the Webway because the Daemon was extraordinarily powerful as it was born from humanities “first” murder and not even the Emperor himself could kill it outright.” -u/SuperDJBling
