MW3 DLC starts Jan 24 for Xbox 360 CoD Elite members

by Dan on December 21, 2011

Call of Duty Elite premium members are all set when it comes to DLC — their subscription includes nine months of new content for MW3. The question has been…when do those nine months start?

If you've already paid, you deserve to know first!

An email went out to premium members today, along with an episode of Roll Call on Elite TV (which is also only viewable by premium members), where host Jay Frechette spoke to Robert Bowling about the DLC plans. In addition to confirming that Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Raven Software are all working on MW3 DLC, a date for the first content was announced: January 24, for Elite premium members on Xbox 360.

Other platforms and dates were not discussed, but remember that there’s a double-whammy here: Due to a business arrangement from 2010, Xbox 360 gets DLC content ahead of other platforms, and Activision has promised Elite subscribers will get DLC content ahead of the general public. With that in mind, I see five audiences: Xbox 360 Elite, Xbox 360 general public, PS3 Elite, PS3 general public, and PC. I don’t yet know in what order each of those audiences will be served. That could get confusing, but you know I’ll do my best to make it as easy to figure out as possible.

Also, the email that went to Elite premium members which noted the iOS and Android Elite clients should be coming in January. So…good Elite things are on tap for early 2012. I’ll spend the rest of the time trying to prestige again.

UPDATE: Via Twitter, fourzerotwo just uploaded the first screenshot from MW3 DLC. He says:

Exclusive sneak peek at ‘Park’ – some of the first #MW3 DLC hitting Jan 24th for Elite subscribers! More info in Jan!

Your first DLC battleground

Is that Park as in Central? Based on the skyscrapers, I think it’s a possibility, but I don’t recognize that specific fountain.

If you think about it, if the DLC’s are the traditional 15 bucks and there are 9 of them you will end up spending 135 bucks! But if you buy elite for 50 bucks you save $85! I don’t know about you guys but im going premium.

    Hardcore FFA too!

I have not heard how many DLC packs there will be, but…9 seems like a very high number. No previous CoD game has had more than 4. Where are you getting the 9 number?

I’m not sure what good “still waiting for more info” would do as its own blog post. The basics remain what they were in August: a free version coming sometime this year is the current plan.

I take it from your reaction that you did not read the whole article. Please go back and read the text between the two images. It will explain why it’s appearing first on 360, and why it should not be a surprise.

I believe that Robert Bowling has stated the SD/HD thing is on their list of things to address ASAP. That is an MW3 issue, not an Elite issue, so I’m not sure what it has to do with this post.

Well. I’ll be patient and see if we’ll get a free version of CoD Elite. Of course we get locked out of any DLC deals, or any chance of winning real prices.

Lockout? This…is a strange thing to say, since you and I have discussed this at length in other threads. You are very well aware of the different network architectures and various issues that make PC a very different ecosystem from console. PC is not getting what console gets. Console is not getting what PC gets. Crystal clear. And you know this, so I feel like I’m talking down to you by saying it yet again. Please stop putting me in this position.

If you want the stuff they are doing on console, you should play on console. Because what exists on console — as we have discussed for several months, you and I, directly — is not coming to PC. You have made a choice to support PC exclusively and I respect that, because we all choose to play whatever makes us the happiest — but there is no “lockout” if you can walk into a store and buy the stuff you need to take part in the community that you seem to want to be part of.

Consider this analogy:L They don’t put a flatbed on a Ferrari. They don’t put a V12 in a pickup. Both sports cars and trucks are cars, but they are built with different purposes and capabilities. Someone might wonder what it would be like to create a crossover, but that doesn’t mean Ford or Ferrari has any reason to put it into production if they say “Yeah, that doesn’t work, for all these reasons.”

I think you need to find which option within your control will make you happy, and choose it. Saying “I want what console has on PC” is not an option within your control, and four months after we first discussed it, it is an unreasonable and unhealthy outlook on the situation.

So, choose. Buy a console and try the console Elite experience, or stick with PC and wait to see what they are cooking up. But I can say with absolute certainty that you cannot have it both ways, and repeatedly asking for it both ways will not give you that outcome.

Then why was  “I want what console has on PC” offered as an option in Elite in the first place?

I believe it was stated some form of dlc would be released once a month for 9 months per elite faq before it was released.

  • http://oneofswords.com/ Dan (OneOfSwords)

Because giving PC the same service was the plan at the start, and the plan changed when it was deemed not feasible. Again, this is something you and I have discussed at length in the past. You know this. You are talking in circles and wasting both of our time.

My New Year’s Resolution is not to put up with trolls that waste time and energy. I don’t know if you mean it, but you are coming off a troll at this point. So here’s a warning that I will try to keep friendly: Please stop asking the same questions when you already know the answers.

As I said before, i’m more then willing to take this to the proper channels. If they wouldn’t ignore us. Let’s hope they read this and maybe update us. Anyways. Thanks for your time.

I know we shouldn’t make assumptions abut the DLC  release schedules but  XBox 360 ELITE
    PREMIUM(PAID) <- PS3 ELITE PREMIUM(PAID) <- XBox 360 ELITE (FREE)
<- PS3 ELITE(FREE) make the most sense I don't know what your take is on that idea but you really shouldn't be so quick to shoot it down it makes a lot of sense

microsoft can pay for early release cause all there players pay a membership fee.  your free online community has its drawbacks this being the biggest one.  its also a drawback that your shit network lags more and gets hacked to where you can’t play for   a month.  trust me i was hardcore ps2, but when xbox anounced a better communtiy that you pay for i jumped ship (glad i did) nothing in life is free. and if it is its lower quality simple as that

I’m a bit late to the game here, but I was looking for the answers to a couple of questions concerning this:
     1. If i do not have a paid Elite account yet, can I still buy one and get all the DLC free for the year?

    2. When my year subscription is up, do I lose all that content?

honestly idk why people complain about all of this all i know is i love cod mw3 and i cant wait for the dlc to come out in 2 days!!! and i heard there goin to be releasing dlc every 2 weeks for 9 months and that there will be 20 dlcs for premium elite members but in the end there will be only 4 or 5 for people that have to pay for the dlc

It’s not favoritism. Xbox just has a contract with Activision to release the dlc for xbox first, the contract ends this year.
