Many gamers will be able to join the Call of Duty Elite beta and test the service out for themselves over the coming weeks, and I know a lot of people are impatiently refreshing their mailboxes right now waiting for an invite. But if you can’t wait, here’s a personal, casual walkthrough of Elite from the team leaders at Beachhead — Chacko Sonny, studio head, and Noah Heller, product director. Basically, if you could have attended E3, this is what you would have seen.
Please note that this video was shot about 10 days before the public beta was ready, so you are going to see some things that are incomplete even by beta standards. It’s a proper look behind the curtain in that respect.
You can also view it in HD on YouTube, so you can see more detail.
Like what you see? There’s still time to sign up for the Call of Duty Elite beta yourself. PC players will have to wait until Elite’s November launch to try it out, but if you’re a 360 or PS3 owner, you can still get involved this summer. Check out the official FAQ for more questions. I have some info on how the beta logistics will work, too.
UPDATE: Looks like some people took “PC players will have to wait until the fall to try it out” to mean there would be a PC beta in the fall. Uh, no — the beta is taking place this summer, and the final Elite service is launching in the fall, on November 8. Therefore…PC players will have to wait until the fall to try it out. I’ve amended the above so it’s more clear.
