Modern Warfare 2: The Soundtrack

by Dan on June 1, 2010

You’ve played the Modern Warfare 2. You’ve done the Special Ops missions with a friend. You’ve jumped into firefights on Xbox Live, Steam, and PlayStation Network. And yet, you have silently failed, because you still can’t play the game when you drive. What to do? Listen to the soundtrack in the car, of course.

I do not mean to downplay Lorne Balfe’s score — he’s got a resume a mile long too — but the soundtrack features music by Hans Zimmer, the man behind Black Hawk Down, Kung Fu Panda, Rain Man, Sherlock Holmes, The Dark Knight, The Lion King, and The Rock, among many other films. And yet, with 100 films to his credit, Modern Warfare 2 is his first video game soundtrack.

Yes, you read that right: The composer behind The Lion King and Kung-Fu Panda also wrote music for Modern Warfare 2. I’m sure you need no other reasons to buy it immediately, so it’s available at Amazon and iTunes, and wherever fine digital music is sold.

UPDATE: To my knowledge, this is a digitally distributed album only;  a CD version does not exist, and I do not know of any plans to create one. If that changes I’ll update you. Also, check some of the reactions on this Zimmer fansite.

While I found MW2 multiplayer disappointing, as a Zimmer fan, I need this soundtrack.

While Hans Zimmer was the main guy that head the scoring, what about Nick Phoenix and Thomas J. Bergersen. Those 2 guys started the music production company 2 Steps From Hell which makes the epic kick ass trailer music.

For example the Mass Effect 2 trailer music “Heart of Courage” was from 2 Steps From Hell.

Don't forget about the additional composers.

Also Hans Zimmer needs to cut down on using the Key of D minor. It's getting old.

But it's the saddest of all keys.
