Playing With Swords: Your Non-MW3 Choice | 1/6

by Dan on January 3, 2012

I’ve been enjoying a lot of Modern Warfare 3, but I feel like I’ve been neglecting other games for Playing With Swords sessions as a result. So let’s get one of those non-CoD titles in the rotation this week. I’ll let you choose the title and the platform, and whatever wins the poll is what we’ll play this Friday, January 6, from 6pm Pacific to 8pm Pacific. I’m going with recent titles as well as games that have had strong turnouts in earlier polls, successful events in the past, the one where we have a guild, and one game that has come to renewed light due to recent product announcements.

And please remember, this is not just a popularity contest. Vote for what you will actually show up to play. I got hosed by this last year when a fan community mobilized to vote for their title, then only three people actually showed up to play. Don’t do that.

Poll ends Friday at 3pm, so…vote!

What do you wanna play?

  • Blur (360) (35%, 46 Votes)
  • Blur (PS3) (9%, 12 Votes)
  • World of Warcraft (PC/Mac) (9%, 12 Votes)

    Yes, Blur.

What? No MUA? That worked out so well last time. LOL.

It’s like you’re reading right between the lines!  :) I have reason to believe that Marvel fans (and perhaps some of the Marvel dev  production teams here at Activision) mistook that night’s event for a straight up “what is the game you like the most” vote and set everything off its axis.

Nothing against MUA, which is a hell of a lot of fun, but it still burns me that we missed out on a night of good multiplayer gaming that several dozen people could have enjoyed if only the voting had been more genuine and a title had won that the bulk of the voters actually intended to play.

I was there and tried getting into games. I think time made us forget how bad the online matchmaking was for that game. It was pretty broken. As a huge fan of the first game, one of the main things I was looking for in the sequel was better online. Instead it was actually worse.

Yeah, It’s a shame they had all that, “download this thing to be able to play with people with the DLC, oops we don’t offer that for download anymore”. That was the problem I had.

LOL, skewed by the dev team. Tricky boogers. I did vote for it and try to play, but you probably remember the problems that occurred. (see the reply below)

Definately Blur, there is hardly ever more then 100 people online. Hard to get a good set of races going. Never get to play any of the other game types either.

As I said a looong time ago, with Blur, you only need 20 people to get the maximum race size going. Sounds like you have five times that on any given day. I have had plenty of fun with four or five people. If you’re looking for a regular group…you might find it among the people here in the comments.

Also…this game is more than a year old now and it’s not in the spotlight. I love it dearly but we all know that games have a “spotlight shelf life” and get less attention as they age. Especially if there is no sequel in the works and the developer has closed. So it’s down to the fans, as always.

During GamesRadar’s 24 hour marathon we managed to get three people to play blur. Including Chris.
