I got the MW3 Gunnar gaming glasses

by Dan on October 25, 2011

Hey, look what arrived on my desk!

Yes, that is the just-released MW3 edition of Gunnar’s digital performance eyewear. You may remember my article about the Black Ops edition last year and my subsequent experience with them which made me a fan. (If you are reading this while saying “Gaming glasses? Give me a break,” please read that article – or listen to Gunnar’s Michael Polin answer the skeptics live on this week’s podcast.) So when the box arrived, I was eager to pop these on and check them out.

The brushed steel look is appropriately...modern.

Right off the bat the frames are more substantial than last year’s edition. Gunnar glasses are notoriously light, designed with minimal or flexible frames so you basically don’t feel them while they are on. The MW3 edition is a bit heavier but certainly not uncomfortably so — stiff and sturdy, but not bulky at all.

For when stickers or labels just won't do.

The temples feature the MW3 logo etched into them. The temple’s ear pieces are soft black rubber.

Big nose? Small nose? Who knows? You can adjust accordingly.

One of the benefits of going with thicker frames is a spring-loaded temple — if you have a large head, these should still fit comfortably. And if you have a small nose, the adjustable nose pads will let you tweak the fit to your face. Better still, the MW3 frames are prescription compatible.

Short version: I like them. At $99, they are an investment, but if you spend all day in front of computer screens like I do and consider how often you will use them, you may find they are well worth the price. (And that price includes a hard case as well as a polishing pouch.)

If you are curious about how it all works, the Gunnar website has all the tech info you could ever want. And of course, if the idea appeals to you but the MW3 design doesn’t, there are plenty more options to check out.

If you want to try them for yourself, you can find the MW3 Gunnars at Best Buy nowish. I’m told Best Buy also stocks two other models. See if you like the look of the (virtual) world through them.

Sold! I’ve been hesitating to purchase the Black Ops editions that linger around my local Best Buy.

Not yet, working on that. Gunnar says they’re down for a giveaway, so I will work out the details.

I didn’t realize it was an issue until our conversation, and I went…oh yeah, I guess that makes a big difference! So yeah, maybe these will work for you.

I have the COD:BO ones and they are awesome. Adding the MW3 ones to my collection too along with GUNNAR’s Halogens.
