SDCC 2011: The Photos Strike Back

by Dan on July 22, 2011

Another day of San Diego Comic-Con, another Katrin Auch photo gallery to document the glorious full-frontal nerdity. Plenty to see here — including happy couples, furry friends, and Stan Lee’s autograph session at the Activision booth — so let’s get underway…

The Activision booth anchors a corner of the convention center. It's loud.

Beenox studio head Dee Brown personally demoed Spider-Man: Edge of Time.

Radical VP Dave Fracchia decided he didn't like my Jayne Cobb hat, so he took action with a Prototype 2 foam blade arm.

That's a legit shot of people's faces while watching the Prototype 2 demo -- specifically, they'd just seen the effects of the bio-bomb.

After the demo, Dave gave out a few blade arms to people who could answer some easy trivia questions. They went fast.

X-Men Destiny had its own giveaways -- cool patches that made me nostalgic for the 2600 days.

If you preordered the games at the booth, you got some extra swag, plus a chance to win customized game consoles. Lots more people did this than i expected.

Stan Lee did a signing at the Activision booth at 5pm. People started lining up first thing in the morning.

A living legend and a class act -- Stan really appreciates his fans.

San Diego is home to a major Naval base, so those are not cosplayers.

This guy, however, was. The jaw in the mask was articulated, so it moved when he spoke!

The Master approves! (Please tell me you get this.)

A series of wheels and pulleys made this centaur's back legs move. Very clever.

The Lego booth included a giant pit of bricks for kids of all ages to jump into and start building.

Bad children were sent to Daenerys' concession stand.

When Kat took this photo, she gave them a countdown: "One, two, five!" On cue, Arthur responded "Three!"

Star Wars is for lovers.

Creative use of PVC pipe and cardboard made these guys a hit.

For an entire generation, this was the Dark Knight. You may not appreciate it, but this is dead-on.

That's Seth Killian in the center, commentating on some competitive Ultimate MvC3 matches happening live in Capcom's booth.

He's just made of bricks, but Bumblebee still looks pretty bad-ass.

How many DJs have people their own cosplayers? I mean, besides Daft Punk.

Ironically, I found her in San Diego.

The Activision panel was Saturday morning so Kat took some more photos from that, featuring some familiar faces from Hollywood. Also, don’t miss day one.

Haha I have the same hat. Except no one has any idea what it is so I’m just the guy who wears that weird hat.

I completely forgot that Carmen San Diego was a thing. I used to play the heck out of it in school.

The one with the beheading of Dan is awesome. The red tassel looks like blood squirting out!
