Play Stick It To The Dan/Hugh Don’t Know Jack on the One Of Swords Podcast

by Dan on May 25, 2011

If you’re just joining us, I do a weekly podcast with two friends, one of whom is a writer for Robot Chicken and the other of whom is married to me. And on that podcast I give away prizes to people who can answer a weekly trivia question.

We’re changing the way the trivia works — instead of me asking you something that you can just look up on Google, you have to come up with one and try to stump me, and I have to answer it on the spot. We call it Stick It To The Dan. (Hugh calls it Hugh Don’t Know Jack, but he is delusional.) Here’s how it works:

Come up with a good trivia question — preferably about videogames or something that I might have a chance in hell of knowing. Include the right answer and three wrong answers. Kat will screen them and I will never see your email, but she’s also in charge of picking ones she thinks will be worthy challenges. She’ll read it on the air; Hugh and I will both attempt to answer, based on our vast gaming knowledge and advanced age. Whether we get it right or wrong, you have already won — if Kat picks your question, you will get an Activision Mystery Prize Pack.

So, come up with a good geeky gaming trivia question and put it below, then tune into the podcast and see if your question made the cut. If it did, you win!

Type your trivia question here -- clearly and concisely, please!

That’s a great giveaway :) liking it. And now, back to finding a question worth a mystery prize pack :)

I let Ryan know that I was going to start using this format again, and I see no problem with KOXM using it as well.

Hey, dammit, it was my idea to begin with. :)

I’m on board as long as the theme song returns ;)

Yes! Brings me back to your days on the OXM Podcast…thanks Dan!

It was most certainly time for a new contest. I stopped entering Back of the Box trivia because I’d be chastised for researching the answer. It’s like, dude, you want to get rid of stuff by playing a trivia game, so stop ripping on people for actually entering. It’s like if I went into Best Buy to buy a TV and they threw me out because I researched said TV on Amazon.
Now, the world can go back to normal. My wave of inner anger can subside.

This cat…is in the bag! ;)

Wow, Steve — you’re taking this way more seriously than you should. I ran out the clock on the box stuff because I had done the research. MW3 planning has kept me busy behind the scenes and I didn’t have the time to come up with something until now, and even then, as you heard, we kind of hashed it out live on the show and went with an easy fallback.

If you didn’t enter because you thought we were going to bust on you for winning — something we did not do on a regular basis, and the shows bear this out because we congratulated people for getting it right, like, every week — well, it’s literally your loss.

I think you will get stuck good if my trivia question is chosen!

Love ya, Dan! Response appreciated, though I stand by what I said. I should clarify what I meant.

I know you don’t make fun of winners. I’ve listened since Episode 1 and will continue to do so until the world ends in 2012. It just seemed, to me, that you sounded annoyed that people would just use Google or Bing to get the answer, and I interpreted this annoyance as alienation toward anyone who did use a search engine. While that annoyance is understandable, I thought of it as “whiny” on your part, and that people doing whatever it takes to support you and your contests shouldn’t have to withstand that. (It should be noted that upon writing this inquiry I have not listened to episode 70 yet, and am still behind. So, if I missed something, then that is on me.)

I just want you to like me :) Let’s all just hug it out.

    P.S.
In the form above, it would be nice if you included an optional box to explain WHY an answer is correct. It doesn’t need to be required. I just like to explain my answers.

    P.P.S.
When you said I take this too seriously, you should have wrote, “WHY SO SERIOUS?” like the Joker. It would be funny and you know it.

    and submitted :)

Finally got up the energy to submit a question today! Here’s hoping for the best! And now I feel stupid because I didn’t mention my preferred system >_< I don't know if these ever get checked, but my posting name here is the same as my submitted gamertag. I play mostly 360/PS3 and will use either, so whatever you have more of is fine. Thanks Damrich!

    I sent in a question.
