One of Swords Podcast 053: Foam Violence

by Dan on January 27, 2011

We are flying straight into the future on this week’s a show, a future many feel is inevitable: games without discs. Based on some questions from gamers, I’ve invited Activision’s digital distribution director Jon Estanislao to come on the show to explain how things like Steam sales, XBLA releases, GOG reissues, and the direct download of Activision titles really works. The rest of the time is spent by Hugh and I talking about Hugh’s medication mistakes, the PS3 Black Ops server kerfuffle/non-issue, Matthew McConaughey, the fate of Bizarre Creations and the future of Blur, Black Ops DLC, A Day to Remember, the Activision soda fountain, Astro A30 headsets, and whether or not Robot Chicken is “real stop-motion.” Uh, okay.

That intro story by Hugh was priceless. I recently started taking Adult ADD medication and I quickly learned that under not circumstances should I make decisions while under the influence of the medication. I’d take the pill and within an hour I would have a slew of “great ideas” or things I should say to people. It’s almost equivalent to drunk dialing.

I have come to a medication-free decision though, and it’s that if Hugh was religious, he’d basically be a more successful carbon-copy of me (or me of him, since I’m younger). Negative self-image, self-destructive actions, and a general hatred of the world must go hand in hand. I’ve never taken the wrong pill, but I have accidentally overdosed on cold medicine and had to throw that up. Cold medicine tastes worse coming up than it does going down.

      Matthew McConaughey!? MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY!?!?!

I take back everything I said in my first comment. That, my friend, is the ultimate junk punch.

Matthew McConaughey probably spent more time perfecting his dimple accentuating, douchebag half-smile, than you’ve spent writing your book. Which isn’t to say you haven’t worked hard on your book, it just punctuates how much of jerk Matthew McConaughey is.

Thank you for the update on Blur’s servers. I love the game and supported Bizarre with my wallet. As sad as I am to hear about the studio, I am happy to hear that the servers are still up and running. Thanks Dan for update!

      AARGH!
I purchased 2 copies of Blur! (one for me and my kids) and my brother purchased 2 copies as well. Been a fan of Bizarre Creations since Metro Street Racer on DreamCast.

Just wanted to say “I caught that” when you were talking about your playing Blur and “beating” everyone. Just sayin’. I caught the slight. :^)
