As you have hopefully heard by now, the first DLC collection for Call of Duty: Black Ops, dubbed First Strike, hits Xbox Live Tuesday, February 1. If you haven’t seen the six-minute Inside Xbox segment on what’s in store, it’s right here.
Now, on a more personal note, I’ve been pretty honest about my job — it’s based on the success of Major Nelson. He has become the gamer’s voice at Microsoft, and what I’m doing for Activision is based on the template that he put out there. Sure, I’m mixing it up and doing my own thing with it, but I wouldn’t be here without Larry Hryb.
That doesn’t mean I don’t want to tag him with a Semtex, or perhaps watch him fly head over heels as he runs past my claymore. I’ve been wondering who’s the faster gun when it comes to Black Ops — we’ve both played, but we’ve never played against each other. And this week, I get the chance in person.
On Tuesday, a few VIP NFL guests will be at Treyarch to face off in a friendly grudge match. Local media will be there, Kat will be helping document the event for me, and Major Nelson will one of the guest players. So…it’s on. I don’t know if I’ll be playing on Arian Foster’s team or Maurice Jones-Drew’s team, but my focus is on Larry Hryb.
I will report back on what happens. But until then, I’m preparing for war. I’ve got my Gunnars, I’ve got my controller, and I’ve got my caffeinated beverages. I’m ready.
Major? Pain.
