What are GH:WoR’s Star Challenges?

by Dan on September 22, 2010

So I got some time with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, which ships next week, and I got to dig into the Star Challenges a little bit more, which I have barely seen discussed in previews. These are evolutions of the Bonus Challenges found in the career mode of GH5, only now they’re been vastly expanded and practically comprise a career mode unto themselves. Every song in the game has 13 Star Challenges assigned to it, and meeting those challenges unlocks all kinds of extra loot in the game, plus you can get into rivalries with folks on your friends list very easily.

But it’s the scope of the Star Challenges that really blew my mind. So…how about a video?

There are so many games in my DLC library that I’m looking for excuses to play again — I love “Take It Off” by the Donnas, “Lay Down” by Priestess, and I adore the version of “Cult of Personality” that Living Colour re-recorded especially for GH III, all of which you’ll find in the import for GH: Smash Hits (so those are three reasons I like giving copies of GHSH away whenever possible). I can’t wait to set some scores and see how I rank against friends. What are the tracks you think you could nail with big numbers?

That’s pretty awesome. The sucky part of GH5/BH was that you COULD use DLC for a small handful of challenges in the career mode, but it was like a half-dozen total. I’m glad to see old DLC stand on their own.

Dan, you’ve got to quit saying, “Oh, hi there” at the beginning of your video. Change it up a bit, with something like, “Oh, Hola”. Something different. =P

In regards to the video, star challenges are just something my OCD will make me get and it will waste hours of my life. Looking forward to the full game on the 28th.

But your house is so cool :P
Love the stuff you got on top of your shelves. Companion cube FTW. Oh and that epic cat picture is cool as well.

One of the best endings to a video yet! haha I’ve been to your house legitly. Thats how I have a Powermac G5…anyways im excited about all the challenges. Cant wait to finally have challenges on my DLC and previous GH games. I really wish there were more songs importable from smash hits or at least some way to bring back some GH3 songs. Would love to play my Dragonforce DLC in this…

Forgot to ask; how does the guitar feel?

The strum bar is still clicky, but the body does feel smaller to me than the GH5 guitar, which I am now used to. It’s more on scale with the Les Paul size.

“Oh hi there” is the signature. I am told to do it again if I miss it. Seriously!

I was hoping it would be a but larger. Oh, well. My WT guitar and my Les work still.

Well, I learned something new today. It doesn’t bother me that you say it all the time, I just figured it was time for a change, and maybe you wanted a change for the intro. Nice to know it’s your “signature” though.

Great video again Dan looks a picture of Henry 8th over the TV. Have to say I’m getting more interested in this latest GH incarnation after having ducked out of the last few rounds of music games. Is the UK release date much different the US date you give in the video?

Stan Lee has “Excelsior!”, Dan has “Oh hi there!”

  • Scott ‘Axikal’ Christian

Watching this has enhanced my interest in Warriors Of Rock. I was sold when it was announced that 2112 would be played in entirety during the campaign mode. Now I’m even more sold.

UK is Sept 24 (today!) and US is Sept 28. And if you watch in HD/look closely, you’ll see that the portrait is Henry VIII…as a cat.
