Import GH Metallica into your GH library

by Dan on September 14, 2010

Some rumors went around a while back, and they turned out to be true for once. On September 28, not only does Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock hit stores, but 39 tracks from last year’s Guitar Hero: Metallica will also be importable. Better still, if you buy GH:WoR before October 5 (basically, its launch week), you get to import those tracks for free (in the US, for 360 and PS3, anyway). If you miss that launch-week deal, you can pay $5.99 on PS3/600 Wii Points/480 MS Points and import the tracks later with the little code on the back of your manual.

All the Metallica songs featured in the game are importable, as well as a good selection from other artists. They’ll work in WoR as well as GH5/Band Hero — it’s all the same library. Full track list after the jump.

All these Metallica tracks are importable:

• Metallica – “Battery”
• Metallica – “Creeping Death”
• Metallica – “Disposable Heroes”
• Metallica – “Dyers Eve”
• Metallica – “Enter Sandman”
• Metallica – “Fade To Black”
• Metallica – “Fight Fire With Fire”
• Metallica – “For Whom The Bell Tolls”
• Metallica – “Frantic”
• Metallica – “Fuel”
• Metallica – “Hit The Lights”
• Metallica – “King Nothing”
• Metallica – “Master Of Puppets”
• Metallica – “Mercyful Fate”
• Metallica – “No Leaf Clover”
• Metallica – “Nothing Else Matters”
• Metallica – “One”
• Metallica – “Orion”
• Metallica – “Sad But True”
• Metallica – “Seek And Destroy”
• Metallica – “The Memory Remains”
• Metallica – “The Shortest Straw”
• Metallica – “The Thing That Should Not Be”
• Metallica – “The Unforgiven”
• Metallica – “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)”
• Metallica – “Wherever I May Roam”
• Metallica – “Whiplash”

Plus these songs from Metallica’s favorite artists are included in the import as well:

• Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band – “Turn The Page (Live)”
• Diamond Head – “Am I Evil?”
• Kyuss – “Demon Cleaner”
• Lynyrd Skynyrd – “Tuesday’s Gone”
• Machine Head – “Beautiful Mourning”
• Mastodon – “Blood & Thunder”
• Mercyful Fate – “Evil”
• Motörhead – “Ace Of Spades”
• Samhain – “Mother Of Mercy”
• Social Distortion – “Mommy’s Little Monster (Live)”
• The Sword – “The Black River”
• Thin Lizzy – “The Boys Are Back In Town”

Again, the Metallica import will be available on September 28, same day as GH: Warriors of Rock.

I’ll import for the sake of having the non-Metallica tracks ready to play, but I like keeping the full game because it’s just fun to play those Metallica songs AS Metallica. :)

How do I do that on my 3.15 PS3 system? Losing OtherOS is not an option.

  • Anonymous

    Buy another PS3.

  • zOmBiEcLoWn

Awesome! Now let us export the Van Halen songs, and I’m a happy camper.

YES! Metallica was my favorite GH by far

  • Jayfatha

    FUUUUUUUUU

Hopefully something like this will be announced for Guitar Hero: Van Halen sometime soon.

RAWR! It’s up to the individual bands and labels as to whether they want to participate in something like this. It’s a music licensing thing. Don’t caps out on me about it.

  • http://oneofswords.com/ Dan (OneOfSwords)

Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that. I would expect major fans of Metallica bought the game for that very thing in the first place.

  • http://oneofswords.com/ Dan (OneOfSwords)

You know I’m hoping for it. If that ever happens, I’ll be doing backflips.

    Yay! Mastodon!

  • Ebyrodriguez33

I’m just wondering will we need to have the code on the back of the manual to receive the free import or not?

  • Cool-guy97

    Woohoo, yeah…!!!!

  • Negro9683

yes gueno megor dela de mater

So we have to buy Warriors of Rock to be able to do this? Is that correct or will it just be unlocked that day and I can use GH5 or something to import them (but not free)?

  • http://oneofswords.com/ Dan (OneOfSwords)

You can import them into your library for free if you buy WoR during its first week, or you can pay $6. Either way, the songs will import into your main GH library, so they will work with WoR, GH5, or BH. The import becomes available the same day as the WoR launch, but it works with more than just that game.

  • http://oneofswords.com/ Dan (OneOfSwords)

Yes, the 20-digit code from the manual is your key to unlocking the import, free or otherwise. If you already own GH Metallica, no problem. If you needed an excuse to pick it up, maybe this is it!

  • Anonymous

I understand that, but can I do the importing with a previous GH title. (ie not buy Warriors of Rock right now)

  • NightmareSnake

I don’t see why I would want to do that, I already have the songs on-disc. It’s just wasting hard drive space at this point. That’s why I didn’t import Lego Rock Band.

  • http://oneofswords.com/ Dan (OneOfSwords)

It’s so you can use the Metallica songs in career mode, quickplay, and the new challenge system in Warriors of Rock — as well as quickplay with Band Hero and GH5.

That may not be something you want to do, but that’s why the rest of us want to do it. We get new functionality and more opportunities to enjoy that music.

So you have to own GH:M to import it regardless. The free code is to waive the cost of importing correct?

  • Davicams44

We have to have our GH:M disc correct? or just the code off the booklet?

  • http://twitter.com/Smikers Mike

Is there a special method to get it free the first week? Or is it done the same way as previous imports, just minus the charge?

Is there a special method to receive the import for free? Or is it done the same way, just minus the fee?

Thought I read something somewhere about needing to put both codes into a website to get the free code or something, but I haven’t found anything definite.

  • Tim Static

So how exactly is this supposed to work? Last night it was still 480 points and still is this morning :( Thanks Dan

    http://hub.guitarhero.com/metallicaimport/

Appears I was right about the website needed for the free code. However, XBOX360 owners are claiming that the site is returning 21-character codes instead of 25-character codes, making them unusable. Regardless of platform, I’d wait until that’s addressed before using the site.

  • Tim Static

    yea awesome man. thank you!

  • http://oneofswords.com/ Dan (OneOfSwords)

Looking into it, and so are a lot of other people. Doesn’t seem like many folks were affected, but a fix is in the works and nobody’s gonna lose anything. Just stay cool.

  • http://oneofswords.com/ Dan (OneOfSwords)

Yes, you can import the songs and use them with GH5/Band Hero if you pay the import fee. Same library of tracks, no problem there.

  • http://oneofswords.com/ Dan (OneOfSwords)

That’s correct. You have to own GH: Metallica to import its tracks, regardless of whether you do that with the freebie perk from GHWoR or just pay the import fee. It’s not standalone DLC, it requires the code that comes with the retail copy of GH:M.

Thanks Dan. I know i can count on you, my friend. :)

  • Brunobatt

    Hello People!

I still be able to put the code of the Warriors of Rock Guitar Hero and import the music from Metallica on the same day on October 5?

Only gonna get my game on this day. = /

    Anybody help?

  • Brunobatt

    Forget, i´ve found the answer…

“While supplies last. Promotion ends Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 11:59 pm PST”.

  • http://hombresrudos.com Hachasangrienta

Does this mean that I could import the tracks and then forget about the original disc? I mean, I could just sell it or give it to a friend?

  • Anonymous

Basically yes. But there are a few songs that will still only be on the disc, such as Slayer and Queen.

  • http://oneofswords.com/ Dan (OneOfSwords)

Well, you would not see any of the elements that made the Metallica game uniquely a Metallica game — none of the cinemas, the motion capture, anything that made it GH: Metallica and not GH: A Big Song Pack.
