Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock
Website: http://guitarhero.com
Release Date: Fall 2010
Platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii
Developer: Neversoft
What You Need To Know:
- The Quest Mode offers a narrative story progression. It’s an over-the-top rock mythology about ancient forces at war, a powerful relic, and the need for champions – guitar heroes, if you will – to save rock & roll. Each of the eight characters will transform into an alter-ego creature form and gain a special power in the process, like always having a 2x multiplier or more Star Power.
- Last year’s Party Play mode returns for drop-in/drop-out multiplayer with any combination of instruments. Also, there are now 13 different challenges for every song in the game – everything from note streaks to score tallies to whatever else.
- Several songs have been confirmed so far, including tracks from DragonForce, Rammstein, Kiss (Gene Simmons is narrating the game), Metallica & Ozzy Osbourne (yes, together) and the game features a new track from Megadeth.
- Instead of faceplates, the new guitar controller features removable wings, so you can change the guitar’s entire body style and shape. The first alternate body wings announced make the guitar look like an axe; they’ll be available via GameStop preorder.
- Any existing guitar controllers you may own still work, of course — you don’t need new hardware to play the game.
What It Doesn’t Have: A touch-strip on the guitar. If you like using the touchpad of your GHWT or GH5 guitars, they’ll work, and there are segments in the songs for them as in the past – but those sections can also be played with regular buttons, as they always have been.
What You Might Not Have Heard Yet: The new challenge structure extends to the entire GH5/GH:WoR library. That’s 13 challenges for each of the 500 songs available on disc, as DLC, or imports. That’s a lot of “bet you can’t beat this.”
