Guitar Hero for iPhone out now

by Dan on June 7, 2010

If you followed along to any of the live reports from Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference keynote this morning, you probably spotted that Activision announced Guitar Hero for iPhone and iPod Touch. (Here’s the press release if you’re so inclined.) That was a nice surprise to me — until I realized “Uh oh, people will expect me to have the scoop on this!” So I did some digging and here’s the scoop.

  • It’s $2.99 and available now
  • Six songs are included with the core app: Queen – “We Are The Champions”; Rise Against – “Savior”; The Rolling Stones – “Paint It Black”; Vampire Weekend – “Cousins”; Weezer – “Say It Ain’t So”; and The White Stripes – “Seven Nation Army”
  • It supports downloadable DLC through an in-game music store. Each three-song pack costs $1.99 per pack, and six packs are available today at launch. I’ll give you the full list a little further down.
  • It includes a custom character creator and Facebook intergration, which does seem to be the feature du jour lately
  • It’s developed by Vicarious Visions, developers of four different GH games as well as Band Hero on Wii
  • It’s built from the ground up for iPhone (so it’s not a DS port, even though VV worked on a DS GH)

You can find more screenshots at Apple’s site or iTunes. Needless to say I’ll give it a shot for $2.99.

So…what do you think? I’ll start: This is long overdue. I’ve been wondering where the iPhone version of GH was for some time, so I’m glad to see that it looks pretty full of features. I am very curious to see how it “feels.” You GH folks know what I’m talking about.

Full list of DLC follows after the jump.
